Teacher Conference
Well, Tommy and I went to go see Coby's teacher last Friday. Coby isn't doing so good. The teacher said that if she could just have his attention he'd do much better. Apparently while the teacher is going over work, Coby is off into space and when she says it's time to turn in the work, Coby rushes to put whatever down on his paper to just say that he did something. Most of the time she makes him redo it but by doing that it's holding him back from working forward with the rest of the class. The teacher also suggested that he might have ADD. Which I knew she would. I did get him an appointment with a doctor but I can't get him in there until Nov. 6th. It's a total bummer! If I can get Coby in there and get him checked out and if he is ADD, I'm hoping the doctor will have other alternatives for helping Coby get focused. Like if there is certain foods I should get him to eat before school or really anything other than medication. I don't believe in turning kids into zombies just so they are easier to deal with. Anyway, I'm still working with him and making him read more and giving him my own little spelling tests and I'm trying to think of any games I can do with him to help him focus. I was thinking of getting him some I spy games or something like that. Anywho, I think I'm just about to my witts end and I'm losing patience. I just really hope this doctor will have some answers for me.

Mommy and Lexie
It wasn't that cold on Thanksgiving day but we decided to wear our coats anyway and we look good!
Thanksgiving day
I couldn't keep the kids inside! They enjoyed themselves though. Since they were already outside I took pictures of them in their own habitat.
Sandy Buns
Look how awesome my dog, Sandy is! She is a red nose pit and american pit mix. I was told not to get this kind of dog but we did get a book on this breed and did some homework. Come to find out they are very good family dogs and very protective which is what we were looking for. With Tommy being gone so much I feel a little better being here by myself. When she gets to know you she's as sweet as she can be, but she does do her job well by keeping me alert when someone or something is in my yard or at my door. We all love her to pieces!
Lexie's thumb
I forgot to update on Lexie's thumb. The doctor said that she had an infection but he gave her antibiotics and told me to keep it clean and bandaged. The skin had swollen a bit and the doc said that if it didn't go down then I'd have to bring her back in to get the skin scrapped off. I really hope I don't have to do that!
Redneck Swimming Pool
They had so much fun that day. They were doing cannon balls into the ditch. They loved it!
Hollywood
The first day of school Coby came home with a bag of goodies to welcome the kids back to school. Isn't he so cool?! I was calling him "Hollywood'.
Brockwell family
Easter of 2008, but I promise you we still look the same! With Tommy gone so much this was the last family picture we had taken. Of course I couldn't get all the kids to do right. This is the only picture where I had 2 out of 3 kids sorta looking at the camera.
Nap time
I couldn't resist this picture. How they all got to sleep at the same time is still a mystery to me. This rarely ever happens in my house. Usually I can't get any of them to take a nap. I was even surprised my oldest jumped up there and fell asleep. My dog, Sandy thinks she's one of the kids. Aren't they precious?

Just my opinion here.... If the doctor suggests medication maybe you could wait a year or so and just see if he changes with age. Lots of little boys are like him right? Maybe the teacher doesn't want to deal with him. I've seen wild kids and kids that don't pay much attention in my kid's school. Don't let this stress you. I know easier said than done. My brother had /has extreme ADD. He did get on medication. But maybe (hopefully) even if Coby does have it, its not too too much...
Who am I to know anything really. I know this is super hard on you especially with Tommy always gone. Wish I knew how to help.
I have a friend who has a couple of kids who have ADD, and she cut out all refined sugars and processed foods. It's a hard thing to do, but she says her kids are like night and day. She says you can't even tell that they had problems really. I don't know how far you are willing to go to avoid getting on medication, but I would certainly try it at least until you can get him into the doctor.
Rochell,
This is Dewayne Newburn
First I would suggest that you educate yourself on ADD and ADHD
I believe it has become a catch all for doctors.
And many parents use a drug in the place of discipline. The easy thing to do is slap a kid on meds and be done with it.
Treatment of ADD is not that simple.
There are various drugs out there and there is no particular drug that works for everyone.
It is a struggle taking a medication that does not work and having to change meds 2- 3- 5- 7 times.
FIRST AND FOREMOST
I would educate myself on diet issues.
I would reward good behavior and still discipline bad behavior.
I Personally have ADD and through research spurred from watching a 60 minutes show, I diagnosed myself a few years ago. I wanted to go back to college but I was afraid of the challenge because I have never been able to digest a book.
So I know from first hand experience the frustrations that come along with the TRUE disorder and I come to realize after alot of research that Many times ADD is a Double Edged Sword.
On one side you have a short attention span
but on the other hand most kids with ADD are super smart and grasp things fast because they have to.
Just remember EDUCATION IS THE KEY.
And a Doctors Opinion is just that.
It is his or her opinion.
Fast and pray about your little one and you will be led to the correct material in your search.
Like I said I have ADD and I graduated in the top 20 percent of my high school class and never took home a book
And in with intermittent use of medication I am now finishing 5 years of college I have achieved a 4.0 and made the DEANS list.
